Everything on this website, on my social media accounts, in my emails and in my workshops is general education about how money, accounts and product categories work in Canada. It is written for a broad audience and does not take your personal circumstances into account.
Nothing here is financial, investment, tax, legal, accounting or insurance advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to open, buy, hold or cancel any account, product or policy. Rules, limits and eligibility change; always confirm current details with the Canada Revenue Agency, the relevant government program, or the institution concerned.
The Cents Check
The Cents Check is an educational tool. Its results are general categories of topics that people in a broadly similar situation often find useful to understand. They are not an assessment of your finances, not a plan, and not a recommendation. They are a reading list with a friendly voice.
When it becomes advice
I am Pushpa Kumari, a Financial Educator and a Licensed Life & Accident/Sickness Insurance Agent in Ontario. When a one-to-one conversation turns to your own situation and to life, accident or sickness insurance, I am acting in my licensed capacity, and I will tell you so at that moment. Any regulated document you receive from me will carry my full legal name, Pushpalatha Kumari, and the disclosures the law requires, including the insurers I represent.
I am not licensed to give advice on securities, mutual funds or tax, and I do not hold the credentials required in Ontario to use certain protected titles. I use only the titles I hold.
Figures and examples
I do not publish rates of return, balances, projections or income figures, and I do not use them in examples. Where a page mentions a limit, threshold or grant, the current amount is deliberately not printed, because it changes and a stale number does more harm than none.
Your responsibility
Decisions about your money are yours. Before acting on anything you read here, consider speaking with a professional who is licensed for the matter in question and who knows your circumstances.
